I just bought this wonderful shoji for my living room. I've placed it infont
of the balcony window which has a horrible view of a car park. It's amazing what a difference it makes.

I hate bright daylight so normally keep my curtains drawn which results in a gloomy atmosphere. The shoji makes the room much brighter but softly difuses the light creating a wonderful relaxing ambience.

It only cost £65 + delivery and came all way from an eBay supplier in Germany in just 3 days. The frame is well made from pine wood and is available in a choice of vanishes to suit different interiors. The screening is made from rice paper just as it would be on authentic Japanese shoji. The four screens are 177cm in height and open to approx 2m. They are held together by brass hinges and the whole thing is convenient and light enough to fold down to one screen width for easy storage.

As to the quality, well there's obviously signs of hurried workmanship here and there, the materials are lower grade compared to what you'd see on authentic Japanese made ones. All this can be expected in the price range paid. You get what you pay for, as they say. But I'm very happy and delighted with it.

One thing to consider is that the screen will not open out fully flat and stand-up right. The two outer screens must be at least a 45 angle. So if you're planning one consider carefully how many screens you will need to cover your chosen window width or space.

This thing looks incredible fragile, the screens. It wouldn't take much to tear one so you need to be carefully handling this, especially on it opening and closing or moving it around a lot.
