This is a quick review of Homebase to let people what kind of company this is.

In October 2010 I purchased an Aerobed from them which developed a fault within less than a year of purchase. Homebase responded to my request for a warranty claim and a replacement bed was provided.

However the second bed also developed the same fault. I believe the bed was unsuitable for the purpose it was advertised and sold for (an everyday use bed).

I contacted Homebase again this week and explained the problem and since the bed has a 3 year warranty on the air valve and mechanical pump I requested a replacement or repair.

The response I got back from Homebase was that I needed to pay for an independent assessment from a qualified technician to present to them, before they would honor the warranty and carry out repairs or offer a replacement.

In other words, they attempted to shirt their contractual obligations under the terms of the warranty by adding in new pre-conditions that were never in the warranty. Nowhere does it state a defective bed needs to be independently assessed. This is clearly a financial obstacle tactic to deter warranty claims
on what is a shoddy or mis-sold product.

This to me just shouts shoddy business practice. It's the last time I'll buy anything from Homebase or the Argos group of companies that owns it. I would advise others to think carefully about buying things from them too. Particularly if you're expecting them to honor any warranties on goods that extend beyond the statutory 12 months provided in law. Don't count on them honoring them or being honest or trustworthy.
